Ardyce was 16 months old when her mother, Zora VanDusen got pnemonia & passed away, leaving her husband & 3 little girls. Relatives took the girls to raise, Ardyce lived with her grandparents - Hiram & Pheobe VanDusen. On May 1st, 1933, she married Martin Whitmore. To this union 6 children were born. Barbara Louise, Twila Nadine, Joyce Marie, James Edward, Martin Ernest, Jr. & Connie Elvirda. Twila & Joyce died in infancy.

elson resident Ardyce Louisa (Van Dusen) Whitmore, 81, died Thursday, July 17, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Melby Mortuary Chapel in Mankato, Kansas, with the Rev. Mark Imel officiating. Burial was in Couch Cemetery at Jewell, Kansas.

Ardyce Whitmore was born April 1, 1916, to David and Zora Elvirda (Loucks) Van Duren in Jewell County, Kansas. She attended schools in Jewell County.

May 1, 1933, she married Martin E. Whitmore in Mankato. They lived in Kansas. In 1942 they moved to a farm near Red Cloud. In 1952 she moved to Grand Island. She worked in the dietary department at St. Francis Hospital from 1965-79. In 1987 Ardyce moved to Nelson.
Preceding her in death were two infant daughters and a great grandson.

Survivors include two sons, Martin Jr. of Nelson, Nebraska, and James E. of Springfield, Tennessee; two daughters, Barbara E. Pohl of Erin, Tennessee, and Connie E. Hobbs of O'Brien, Oregon; one sister, Velda Karkins of The Dalles, Oregon; 13 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
