Willis Barnes Dies, Aged 48

C. Willis Barnes, 48, N. Racket River Rd., well known farmer, died at the Neurological Institute, Montreal, at 10 o'clock Sunday morning August 13, 1961.

He had been in failing health since Easter but was able to work each day on the farm which he and his mother, Mrs. Ira Barnes, operate. A week ago Friday he entered the Neurological Institute and underwent brain surgery last Friday, an operation requiring about eight hours.

He was born July 27, 1913, on the farm bought by his grandparents over 80 years ago, a son of Mrs. Eila Willis Barnes and the late Ira G. Barnes.

His father was only four years old when the grandfather died. The grandmother brought up her children on that farm. ira Barnes continued to live on that farm and he died March 31, 1946 at the age of 69 years. Since then the widow and son have operated the farm, keeping a large dairy. it is one of the few operating farms in the Township of Massena.

Willis Barnes held various offices in Massena Grange 704 P.H. His parents have always been active in the Dairymen's League.

Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Ira Barnes; one sister, Mrs. John (Lorraine) Keough, Massena; one brother, Lyle Barnes, a teacher in Dundee, NY; three nieces and one nephew.
