He was born on May 24, 1915 in Massena, son of Ira and Ella Willis Barnes. He graduated from Massena Central High School in 1932 and from Cornell University in 1938.
He taught agriculture at Dundee High School in Lyons for many years and after retiring became an antique dealer.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Air Force.
Surviving was his wife, Eunice; two daughters, Patricia Shaad, Geneva, Switzerland, and Debra Breitenbach, Altamont; a son, Steven Barnes, Rochester; a sister, Lorraine Keough, Massena, two grandchildren and a niece.
