Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24 of Aberdeen. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He died Monday, July 9, 2001 at the Aberdeen Living Center.
Walter Burrer was born May 12, 1929, to Chris and Rosina (Hagel) Burrer on the family farm in McPherson County. He grew up and was educated in the Eureka area. He worked on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950, serving until 1953. He re-enlisted in 1962 and received his honorable discharge in 1963. He then moved to Aberdeen and worked for Dakota Sash and Door.
He married Cora Neuhardt on Dec. 18, 1966 in Aberdeen. He worked at Gage Brothers from 1968 until the time of his retirement in 1994.
He enjoyed reading and spending time at the library, researching historical military items.
Survivors include one son, Brian Burrer of Aberdeen; one daughter, Kathy (Larry) Licht of Parker; one brother, Fred Burrer of Aberdeen; three sisters, Alma Wagenmann and Lillian Maier, both of Aberdeen, and Lorentina Hottman of Coon Rapids, MN; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Casketbearers will be Mike Hottman, Leonard Kline, Tod Borge, Kenneth Erdmann, Aldon Haselhorst, and Dean Borge.
