George Thomas Caldwell, 86, lifelong resident of Jefferson County, of 1422 East Fourth, died early this morning at the Convalescent home, where he had been since 1951.
A son of the late Creed H. and Liddy Ellen Tolson Caldwell, he was born February 14, 1869 in Jefferson County and received his education in the schools of his native county.
Mr. Caldwell was for a number of years engaged in the operation of a saw mill and cotton gin and for five years, served as postmaster at Double Wells.
He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Sulphur Springs and was instrumental in the organization of the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. E. W. Overton of Fort Smith, Mrs. Vinson Seibs of Pine Bluff, and Mrs. J. C. Piper of Madison, Ala.; two sons, Roy E. Caldwell of Little Rock and Earl Eugene Caldwell of Lufkin, Texas; two brothers, Irwin Caldwell of Hot Springs and Otis Caldwell of Pine Bluff.
Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the funeral chapel of Robinson Mortuary with the Elder John R. Harris of Thornton and the Elder R. H. Attaway, of the New Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial was at the Lee Cemetery at Double Wells. Active pallbearers were Bert Lawrence, James Ginnett, Ernest Murdock, Claude Massey, Charlie Ginnett, Jimmy Neeve, Bert Gibbs, and J.B. Murdock.
