"Skit", as he was nicknamed, was a veteran of WWII, and a retired US postal worker. He also worked for a time for his uncle, Harry Chubb, who was a building contractor in Halifax. "Skit" was a self taught musician and could play a wide range of musical instruments. According to his brother Albert, Skit was particulary adept at playing the alto, and together with Albert and his father Howard, particiapted in the town "band", and would occasionally entertain the congregation at the Halifax Otterbein United Brethern Church. Skit's life WAS MUSIC, and he devoted his life to the pleasure that it provided him. A bachelor all of his life, Skit resided at home with his parents Mamie and Howard Lyter, who lived in Halifax, the only home he ever knew. After his parents died, he lived there alone in the Lyter residence. Skit is fondly remembered by this compiler, as he frequently joined his parents, his brother Albert, and sister-in-law Arlene, along with myself, for regular Sunday dinners at his brother's residence, which was just up the street from his, in Halifax. In later life "Skit" suffered from crippling arthritis and became bedridden from not only that affliction, but also from complications brought on by diabetes. He died in the VA Medical Center, Lebanon, PA, and was interred in the Halifax Methodist Cemetery, now next to his brother Albert and sister-in-law Arlene, with a graveside military service. Numerous photos exist and were in the possession of his brother Albert and sister-in-law Arlene Lyter.
