HOUSTON - Phillip Dale "Phil" Dendy, 71, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Oct. 18, 1937, in Chickasaw County to Ellis Adron Dendy and Jewel Lorene Dendy Dendy. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, and a member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church and the Pine Bluff Cemetery Association.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Bluff Baptist Church. The Rev. James Clark and the Rev. Steve Lampkin will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery near Mantee. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Pate Dendy of Houston; three sisters, Joyce Eaton of Montpelier, Julie McMullen and Sam Thrash of Columbus, and Mary Brand (Lonnie) of Cairo; three brothers, Marion "Punk" Dendy (Gaye) of West Point, Lamar Dendy (Cora) of Mantee, and T.A. Dendy (Becky) of West Point; two brothers-in-law, Joe Lee Pate (Rachel) of West Point and Jim Allen Blake of Cedar Bluff; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Olivia "Lulu" Funderburk of Woodland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James "Pete" Dendy.

Pallbearers will be Donald Moore, Ted Griffin, Sam McWhirter, Brad Dobbs, Sonny Kimbrough, Leon Morris, Bob Mixon and Gary Naron.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Ware, Herbert Gregory, Anthony Anderson, Randy Morris, Joe Dobbs, Darrell Hardin, Dennis Palmer, Mahlon Gann, Arnold Duncan, Bud Thompson, Dr. Edmund Miller, Dr. Julian Hill, his nephews and the Pine Bluff Church family.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
