Died
Bailey
--At his residence in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, March 7, 1890, of pneumonia, Dr. C.A. Bailey, aged 53 years.

The doctor was born in Shelby county, Kentucky, on the 13th of November, 1837. His parents removed to Illinois when he was eleven years of age. He was educated at Sheneliff College, Upper Alton, Ill. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the 33d regiment of volunteers serving three years as a private. After the war he studied medicine, graduating in 1865, commencing practice immediately afterward in Pleasant View, Kansas, removing to this place within a short time. He erected the first business house in this city. On account of ill health, in May, 1884, he removed to New Mexico, where he has been engaged in farming and fruit growing, until his death. He leaves here, as well as in New Mexico, many warm friends.

As a man he was always ready to sacrifice personal comfort and ease for the good of his friends, but would never sacrifice a principle for anything. His friends were many, his enemies -- there were none.
His body was shipped to his brother Masons at this place for burial.

"Green be the sod above thee
Friend of our early days,
None knew thee but to love thee,
None spoke of thee but praise."

The remains of Dr. Bailey arrived at Girard on Wednesday evening by the Wells-Fargo express. Jesse Gove got a team and brought the body to Cherokee, arriving about 10 o'clock the same evening. The body is now at the home of A.N. Chadsey, from which place it will be taken to-day by the Masons to the Christian church, where services will be held, and from there to the Cherokee cemetery.

Dr. Baily has many friends here, and a large concourse will gather to-day to pay the last sad rites to one they loved. He was insured in the Masons Mutual for $2,000, which his widow will receive within 30 days after proof of death.
