He was the youngest child when his mother died of the Spanish flu in 1917. The family had the wrong date of his birth. His just older sister Pearl was born May 10, 1909, and she was on the 1910 Census, James was not. He was born a year and a half later. He is on the 1930, Memphis TN Census as age 20. We are still not sure of the month and day of his birth.
