Funeral services for Lewis J. Higgins, 88, of Gibson City, formerly of Monticello were held Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with burial in Monticello Township Cemetery.

Mr. Higgins died May 6, 2003 at Heritage Manor, Gibson City.

He was born Jan 8, 1915 in Monticello, a s/o Isaac and Jane McKenzie Higgins. He married Juanita P. Gray on Jan 30, 1947 in Monticello. She died Jun 4, 1991. Surviving are two sons: Dennis of Gibson City and Richard of Monticello; a daughter, Sharon L. Howell of Greenville SC; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a grandson.

Mr. Higgins worked at Sterling Drug and the Pepsin Plant in Monticello for 30 years. He served in the Navy from 1941 to 1945.

He was a member of the Monticello Bowling League; and held the half-mile track record at Monticello High School for 33 years.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Gibson City or Heritage Manor, Gibson City IL.
