Obituary for Thomas H. Gideon;
T.H. Gideon, the son of George W. and Hannah Anders Gideon, born in Loudoun County, Virginia, September 30, 1853 and departed this life December 25, 1930 at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 25 days at his home in Holton, Kansas where he had resided since 1909.
He moved from Virginia to Belmont County, Ohio in October 1866 and came to kansas early in the 1877, settling on a farm near Emmett, Kansas where he lived for 32 years.
He was united in marriage to Helen M. Spear, June 4, 1879. This union waqs blessed with ten cheldren of whom three have preceded him in death, two in infancy and a daughter Allie in 1908. There remain to mourn his death, his wife, three sons and four daughters and fourteen living grandchildren. Mrs. Mar Segrest of Manhattan, Kansas, Mora of St. Clere, Kansas, Oscar of Emmett, Kansas, Mrs. Myrtle Reiderer of Holton, Elizabeth Weis of
Salina, Kansas, Lloyd of Topeka, Kansas and Mrs. Maude Woolworth of Holton, Kansas. Also, three brothers and two sisters, W.F. of Morristown, Ohio, George L. Gideon, Jensen, Fla., N.E. Gideon of Newkirk, Oklahoma, Mary Chapman of Greene County, Pennsylvania and Minnie McGranahan of St. Clere, Pottamaite, Kansas.
Mr. Gideon united with the United Brethren Church at Mount Olive in its early history. He was also, a charter member of the Security Bennefit Accociation. He was a successful business man and farmer and will be missed by his family and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conductede from the Mount Olive Church by Rev. R.R. Schreiber, assisted by Rev. F.M. Newlin. Burial in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
