He was born in Maudle Germany to Catharine and John Oberst. He was married to Mary Josephine Tinnes. His children were Andrew Albert (Charlotte Marie Blau), Albert (Marie), John (Emma), Herman (Anna), Joseph (Sadie Mae), Louis (Ida), Eugene (Catharine), Mary (worked in the Daviess County sherrifs dept) and another daughter.

All of his children even the girls were very tall.
He was a baker in Queen Victoria's court. He came to Kentucky (dont know how or why) and opened a bakery on Frederica Street, between 3rd and 4th Streets.
