After the death of his wife, Mary, he married Rebecca Wadam, widow Mrs. Hulse, from Brookhaven, Suffolk County, on the 26th of November, 1776 with whom he had son, Benjamin Conklin.
Thomas served as a Private in Captain John Wick's Company, Huntington, in Colonel Josiah Smith's Regiment, 1st Suffolk County Militia.
According to the S.A.R. applications filed in 1908 and 1922 "Besides serving as a Private he was a refugee from Long Island during a part of the Revolution. In 1780, Congress made a requisition on the several states for money to be paid at once in order to put the Army in an effectual condition to opertate with our allies, etc. In accordance with this appeal Thomas Conklin's name appeared upon this subscription list."
