Robert R. Denney, 83, of Herrin, Ill., formerly of Danville, passed away at 2 a.m., Friday, Sept.12, 2008, at the Herrin Hospital.

He was born June 29, 1925, in Danville, the son of Roscoe and Hazel (Nixon) Denney. Robert married Claudine Cox on Aug. 3, 1958, in Danville. She preceded him in death Aug. 9, 1990.

Survivors include: his daughter, Sue Silvey of Carbondale; two grandsons: Jason (Felicia) Stone of Lacey, Wash., and Brandon Stone of Carbondale; three brothers: George and Daniel Denney of Arizona and Clifford Denney of Chicago; two sisters: Betty DeMoss and Patty Jones, both of Danville, and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife, six brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served two tours of duty in Korea. He worked for ESCO until its closure. Robert was a member of the Rock Church. His hobbies included driving and touring the countryside and fishing.
