The sister of an Ossian resident, Ruth M. Barkley, 85, of Decatur, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2007, at Adams Memorial Hospital.Born in Adams County to Ivan V. and Marie V. (Dager) Barkley on October 11, 1921, she married Chalmer H. Barkley on June 14, 1940 in Allen County; he preceded her in death on February 6, 2001.Mrs. Barkley retired from Central Soya as a clerk in the M.R. Department. She also worked as the hostess of Listen Ladies at WADM. She attended Crossroads Church and was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur. She was past president of the Adams County Home Extension Club, a past member of the Decatur Order of the Eastern Star #127, a past Matron and Grand Representative to Calgary, Canada. She served on the Decatur Park & Recreation Board for eight years and City Council of Decatur for four years. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Onalee F. (Jan M.) Elzey of Gahanna, Ohio, and Karen A. (Simeon) Hain of Zionsville; one son, Craig H. Barkley of Decatur; two sisters, Norma Jean (Ronell) Wight of Bellingham, Wash., and Patricia M. Morgan of Decatur; one brother, Loren D. (Janet) Barkley of Ossian, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.Mrs. Barkley was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Dale Barkley and Robert B. Barkley and one sister, Judith K. Barkley.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to either Crossroads Church or St. Mark's United Methodist Church
