Mae Elizabeth Fairbank, 87, died July 20, 1989, at the Grisell Memorial Long Term Care Center in Ransom. She was born May 27, 1902, to Charles and Rebecca (Brown) Squier at Brownell. December 7, 1918, she and Charles Vincent (Smokey) Fairbank were united in marriage at WaKeeney. They lived in Brownell until 1923, when they moved to Ransom. With the exception of a two year period of time when they lived in Shields, the remainder of her life was spent in Ransom. Vincent died June 27, 1958.

Mae was a homemaker and worked at the Grisell Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Monday Ladies Pinochle Club, all of Ransom.

A kind, loving and supportive mother and grandmother, Mae’s family and their activities were the focal point of her life. She was always there when anyone needed help.

Survivors include five sons: Ralph, Boise, Idaho; Elmer, Ransom; Chester, Cimarron; Paul, Independence; and Robert, Topeka; seven daughters: June Bartlett, Dighton; Audrey Lentz, Lawton, Okla.; Burdene Schweitzer, Ransom; Laura Kraft, Great Bend; Carol Small, Liberty, Texas; Esther Zordel, Ransom; Dora Yoder, Jean, Nev.; 47 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Richard, who died in infancy; her parents; two brothers, Otis and Gale Squier; a sister, Bertha Casey; and a grandson.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Ransom, with the Rev. Charles Cryderman officiating. Interment was in the Ransom Cemetery.
