Alvin Arthur Zipperlen, 81, of Riesel, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at a nursing home in Waco, Texas. Memorial services will be held at a later time. Local arrangements are by Pecan Grove Funeral Home.

Alvin was born in Marlin, Texas, to the late Charles Christian and Alma Emily Woltmann Zipperlen. He attended school in Marlin, joined the U.S. Navy, and after his tour of duty, he attended TSTC and then went on to the Dallas Bible Institute. He loved gardening, raising flowers and vegetables. Alvin was a member of the Meiers Settlement Methodist Church in Riesel. He met and married Yvonne Goolsby while at the Dallas Bible Institute.

Alvin is preceded in death by his brothers, Ben and Charles Zipperlen; and sisters, Florence Zipperlen, Olga Earhart, Selma Howard, Dorothy Federwisch and Alice Pearl Doughty.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Yvonne Zipperlen, of Riesel; sons, Alvin Zipperlen Jr. and wife, Maggie, of Kearney, Neb., Darrell Zipperlen and wife, Debbie, of Denver, Colo., and Eric Zipperlen, of Sagamihara, Japan; daughters, Jane Zipperlen, of Riesel, and Rose Hull, of Guernsy, Wyo.; sisters, Ruth Winkleman and Ruby Hoffman and husband, Lawrence, all of Riesel, and Annie May Isbel, of Valley Mills; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend and caregiver, Cindy Kell.
