Ruby Meta was born in Marlin, Texas, to the late Charles Christian and Alma Emily (Woltmann) Zipperlen. She graduated from Mart High School and began a career with the McLennan County Tax Office as a Deputy Clerk. After many years of service, Ruby retired from the tax office. She was a lifelong resident of the Riesel area and a member of the Meier Settlement United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was President of the United Methodist Women and Church Board Secretary for several years.
On September 14, 1945, Ruby married Lawrence Hoffmeyer in Waco and together they raised their four children. She loved gardening, fishing, and family gatherings. Ruby adored her family and would always attend the children's school activities and athletic events. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 65 years, Lawrence Hoffmeyer; sisters: Selma Howard, Olga Earhart, Alice Doughty, Ann Isbell, Florence Zipperlen, twin sister, Ruth Winkelmann, and Dorothy Federwisch; and her brothers: Ben, Alvin and Charles Zipperlen.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Tunmire and husband, Shelby, and Judy Guyer and husband, David, both of Waco; sons, Tom Hoffmeyer and wife, Kathy, of China Spring, and George Hoffmeyer and wife, Rebecca, of Loretto, Tennessee; grandchildren, Shannon Zander, of Hewitt, Cameron Hoffmeyer, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and Caitlin Hoffmeyer, of Memphis, Tennessee; and great-grandchildren, Dalton Zander and Ashlyn Zander, both of Hewitt.
