Violette B. Johnston
Hobart, IN -- Violette B. Johnston, age 96, of Hobart, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2005. She was a longtime Hobart resident and spent 21 years of retirement in Florida with her husband, Donald. Violette was a member of the Deep River Church of Christ, she was the former choir director for the Hobart First United Methodist Church and former Jr. Youth Choir director at the Hobart Christian Church. She taught early childhood education at the Deep River Church of Christ.
Violette is survived by four daughters: Donna Stanley of Mountain Home, AR, Marylou (Joe) Doyen of Westville, IN, Judith (Lee) Porter of Portage, IN and Beth (George) Landgrebe of Valparaiso, IN; one brother, Herbert Ellenberger of Hobart; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Nevin and Blanche Ellenberger; husband, Donald W. Johnston; one brother, Jack Ellenberger and one sister, Vera Curran.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harbor Light Hospice, 500 W. 81st Avenue, Merrillville, IN 46410.
Funeral services are Monday, July 25, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, with Mr. Art Wilkerson and Chaplain Frank Klobucar, officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
