Donald J. Hansen, the son of Chris and Mabel (Sykes) Hansen, was born on January 20, 1928, being the first boy born at the original Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on May 23, 2006 at the University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 3 days.

Don was baptized in the Presbyterian Church, Ruskin, Nebraska. He graduated from Ruskin High School in May of 1946, and entered the United States Army in October of 1950. He took training in Fort Polk, Louisiana and Japan and served as a medic in the Korean war receiving the Combat Medical Badge, Over/Seas Bar- United Nations Service
Medal, Occupation Medal and the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Campaign Stars. Donald was discharged in July of 1952.

He was united in marriage to Mona Striggow on March 5, 1951 in Ruskin, Nebraska. He was employed by Bondegard Sand and Gravel in Oak, Nebraska then Bergt Brothers Sand and Gravel in Davenport as a truck driver/gravel pumper, till his retirement in 1990.

Don was an avid gardener, he loved watching it grow and mature. He also loved to camp and fish in the summer. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very important in his life.

He was a life member of the Ruskin American Legion, Nelson VFW, Korean War Veteran Association, 45th Infantry Division Association, 180th Infantry Association, and the Methodist Church, Davenport, Nebraska.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, and son, Gregory.

Survivors include his wife Mona of Davenport, Nebraska; children: Patricia Spore and husband Chuck, and Wayne and wife Melanie all of Hastings, Nebraska, and Raymond and wife Mary of Gillette, Wyoming; eight grandchildren: April Wright and husband Chad, Brandon Spore, Toni Hintz and husband Justin, Brandi Oman and husband Matt, Sam Hansen, Joe Hansen, Shauna Carpenter and husband Tim, and Eric Hansen; three great-grandchildren, Emmit Hintz, Elijah Oman and Joseph Hansen, Jr., one aunt, Mabel Rondeau, of La Grange Park, Illinois; one sister, Mary Striggow and husband Allen of Olympia, Washington, one brother, Kenneth Hansen and wife Donna of Ruskin, Nebraska; sister-in-laws, Bonnie Colgrove and husband Don of Salina, Kansas, Shirley Jacobitz of Hastings, Nebraska, Jean Schott and husband Eugene of Rossville, Kansas, June Andelt and husband Don of Crete, Nebraska, and brother-in-law Larry Striggow and wife Judy of Superior, Nebraska; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the United Methodist Church in Davenport, Nebraska with Pastor Lorri Kentner officiating. Music was
"Life's Railway to Heaven" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord", with Ruth Oellerich as soloist and congregational hymn, "In The Garden" with Holly Schoming as organist.

Pallbearers were Sam Hansen, Chad Wright, Brandon Spore, Matt Oman, Justin Hintz and Scott Colgrove. Honorary Pallbearers were Eric Hansen, Joe Hansen, Tim Carpenter, Shauna Carpenter, April Wright, Toni Hintz and Brandi Oman.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at 2:00 PM at Ruskin, Nebraska with Full Military Rites.

Memorials may be give in care of the family.
