Wayne O. Talley, 100, longtime Valley resident died July 16, 2008 in Canon City, Colo.

Wayne was born Sept. 1, 1907 in Woodard, Okla. to Kate (Biggs) and John Irvin Talley. He married Dorothy I. Fisher on Aug. 3. 1931 in Alamosa, Colo, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2006.

Wayne was a member of the Episcopalian faith and attended St. Stephens Episcopal church in Monte Vista and St Thomas Episcopal Church in Alamosa, where he served on the Vestry Board and taught Sunday school.

Wayne grew up on a ranch near Villa Grove. Colo. and loved to ride his horse and herd cattle and sheep. He graduated from Saguache High School in 1923. He also loved to fish and to take his family to the mountains for picnics. He loved to go dancing with his wife and to play Bridge with his many friends. Wayne played the harmonica and knew many songs. He was devoted to his family and friends.

Wayne was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Alamosa, the Kiwanis Club, and Shriners. Wayne was proud to have received a birthday card from the White House and President George W. and Laura Bush on his 100th birthday.

Wayne worked for many years as a salesman for the Barber Implement Company in Alamosa and later was manager of the Lockwood Grader Co. in Monte Vista, Colo. In his later years, he owned Talley Sewing Machine repair shop in Alamosa. Wayne served in the United States National Guard from 1934 to 1938 as an enlisted member of the Horse Brigade.

Wayne is survived by his children: Shirley Roberts of Ordway, Colo, Rodney (Nelly) Talley of Centennial, Colo, Robert Talley of Aurora, Colo, Anne (John) Plummer of Canon City, David (Pat) Talley, Paul Talley, and Bill (Kay) Talley all of Alamosa; by one daughter-in-law as well as by 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; special nieces Nancy (Rufino)Lopez and Paulette (Keith) O'Malley both of Arizona, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, his son Richard Talley, one son-in-law, and four brothers.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm Mon, July 21, 2008 at the Monte Vista Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the St. Stephens Episcopal Church in his memory. Arrangements are in the care of Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista.
