Elmer M. Schmitz, 50, of 5147 N. Woodruff Ave., Milwaukee, died Wednesday at Wood Veterans Hospital.

He was born at Mount Calvary on Nov. 1, 1921, a son of Nick and Louisa Steffes Schmitz. He never married.

Mr. Schmitz was graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School and was a switchman with the Chicago & North Western Railway Co. until his death. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

Surviving are his mother of Fond du Lac; a brother, Walter of Mount Calvary; and six sisters, Mrs. Loretta Loehr and Miss Irma Schmitz both of Mount Calvary, Mrs. Russell Ehlembeck of Milwaukee, Miss Viola Schmitz of New York City, Miss Lila Schmitz of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Al Bartash of New Holstein. His father preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Mr. Schmitz will be held at noon Friday at Gesu Catholic Church, Milwaukee. Burial will be at Wood, Wis.
