Jacob's traditional Swedish name, being a son of Nils Andersson, was Jacob Nilsson. He later Americanized his name to Jacob Nilsson Broman (headstone reads "Jacob N. Broman"). He married Maria, daughter of Olof Olsson allegedly in Feb 1862 in Sweden. Maria died 15 Feb 1867 in Uppsala, Sweden. They had three children:

Carl Gustof, b. 1861
Emma Maria, b. 1862
Charlotta Eugenia, b. 1864

Jacob immigrated to the United States in Jul 1880, settling in Utah. A few years later he married Ingeborg Stenquist 16 Jun 1893 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They had nine children:

Fritz Jacob, b. 1895
Linda Fredricka, b. 1896
Erick Larenz, b. 1899
Garda Ingeborg, b. 1901
Edwin Mauritz, b. 1903
