A BIOGRAPHY OF WILLIAM PALMER BARRY, by Laurence Overmire, genealogist and family historian, updated Aug. 2023:

William Palmer Barry was born in 1841 in Maine. He was the son of John Barry and Sarah Palmer of Machias, Maine. The family was living in Whitneyville, ME, in 1850.

On Dec. 11, 1861, when he was 20 years old, William enlisted as a private in the Maine 3rd Light Artillery and rose to the rank of corporal. On Mar. 28, 1863, he was transferred to Co. M of the Maine 1st Heavy Artillery.

He was a railroad agent and clerk. He married Henrietta M. Dorman in 1872. They had 3 sons: Edgar Allan, Roland Longfellow, Harlan Dorman.

William died Jan. 12, 1921, at the age of 79, and was buried in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
