Philip Geibe was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada and from there to the US. His name is spelled Geibe on his tombstone and Geib by many of his chilldren. It also was spelled in various other ways.

Philip Geibe served in Co. H,6th Michigan Cavalry during the Civil War.He enlisted on September 11,1862 at Gaines,Michigan. He was wounded, which kept him from participating in the Battle of Gettysburg. His leg was not amputated but later developed gangrene. He was discharged at Washington DC on March 21,1865.
