Laura B. (Flicker) Grundhofer, a resident of Pierz, died Jan. 2, 2007, at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, surrounded by her loving family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 5 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Gerald Dalselth and Rev. Michael J. O'Connell concelebrating.
Laura Barbara (Flicker) Grundhofer was born June 13, 1911, in Pierz, Morrison County, to the late Frank and Mary (Gross) Flicker. She grew up in Pierz and attended country school in the Pierz area through the eighth grade. Following her schooling, Laura remained on the family farm until she was united in marriage June 13, 1934, to John A. Grundhofer at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. Laura and John operated the Rite Spot Bar in Buckman from 1935 to 1938. The couple relocated to Glendale, CA. Laura and John had three children, John F. "Jack", Joan K. and Jerry A. Grundhofer. While her children were in school, she was very involved with the PTA and provided transportation to all the nuns at her children's school when needed. While living in California, she owned and operated a catering business for many years. Laura also worked 17 years at Sears in the accounting department in Glendale, CA. In 1992, Laura and John moved back to Pierz, Her husband, John, died April 28, 1997. Following his death, Laura continued to live in her home in Pierz until June of 2005, when she became a resident of the Pierz Villa, residing there until her death. Laura was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz and the Christian Women. While in California, she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Laura was a very spiritual person. Her children, grandchildren and friends were a very important part of her life.
Laura is survived by her sons and daughter John F. "Jack" Grundhofer and significant other Patricia Meier of Plankinton, SD, Joan K. Briggs-Spritz and husband Gary of Los Angeles, CA, and Jerry A. Grundhofer and wife Kathleen of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Kathryn Grundhofer-Chatow and husband Kevin of Mountain View, CA, Karen Grundhofer-Elkawa and husband Hassan of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Jeffrey Briggs and wife Jing of Alhambra, CA and Lauren Grundhofer of Chicago, IL; six great-grandchildren and special family friends, Neil and Mary Korf of Pierz and their children, Michael Korf, Julie Nielsen and husband Ben, Becky Korf and Mark Korf.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers Werner, Raymond, Melvin and Ronald Flicker.
Casketbearers were Neil and Mary Korf, Michael Korf, Julie Korf-Nielsen, Becky Korf and Mark Korf.
Memorials will be given to Holy Trinity Grade School, c/o St. Joseph's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 428, Pierz, MN 56364.
