She came with several family members to Amelia, Va, in early 1901 in two covered wagons from Shiawassee County,Michigan. Included on the travels to Virginia were her daughter Rachel Layman Ashman,son-in-law Samuel W. Ashman,her only grandson James W. Ashman, her son Joel P. Layman & daughter in law Kate Rubelman Layman, and a brother Josiah H. Marsh. This was not her first time to relocate with some of her family members. In 1880/1881 some of the same members of the 1901 trip to Virginia had left Delaware County, Ohio where her married life began with her husband & there two children were born. They made the way to Corunna, Michigan, with few more relatives, the Duffys,& Foremans. She was a great influence of perseverance in all the family as they lived & worked together at there new home in Virginia as well in where she resided in a Michigan and Ohio where she was raised from birth.
Her parents were Joel Marsh of N Y.b 1796 d1-3-1874 & spouse Rachel Hill of Westmoreland Cty,PA. Born 3-16-1798 Died 3-7-1871 They had several children, Benjamin b 6-30-1822 d 7-22-1864, Stephen b.8-10-1824 d.2-19-1826,"Sally"Sarah b 7-7-1826 d7-9-1830,Joshua b 8-26-1828 d7-7-1830;William Martin b 6-24-1833 d 11-12-1863 m Hannah Marks; Maryem(Miriam) b. 1835 d 8-2-1914 Amelia,Virginia,m.1858 in Delaware co. Ohio ,William Perry Layman b 6-7-1838 Ohio d 10-3-1867 on Delaware Co .Ohio; Josiah Henry Harrison Marsh; b 5-12-1840 d 9-15-1927 Amelia, VA.;Joel Perry b 9-10-1842 died young possible stroke ,1870 Census he was 26 a teacher, (Dance)??.
