Obituary, Punxsutawney Spirit, dated June 8, 1935: LIFELONG RESIDENT OF MARKTON SECTION DIES
Godfrey Thomas Succumbs At Age of 79 Years of Heart Trouble After Long illness.
Godfrey Thomas, a lifelong resident of the Markton section, died in his home in Markton Friday afternoon at 5:15 o`clock at the age of 79 years of a heart condition following a lingering illness.
The deceased was born in Beaver township April 3, 1856, a son of late Peter and Barbara (Reitz) Thomas. He was reared to young manhood in that section an May 19, 1883, was united in marriage to Miss Alice Siverling, who died only six weeks ago.
He was a devout member of the United. Brethren Church of Markton and took an active part in church and community affairs all his life. The death of Mr. Thomas is sincerely mourned thru-out this section, where he was well known. Surviving are the following daughters and sons: Mrs. John Atcheson, Lloyd, Burt and Edward, all of Markton; Mrs. Harry Forrest, Panic; Mrs. John Durst, and Florence Thomas, of New Castle. One sister, Mrs. Lydia Burkett, of Markton; a half-sister, Mrs. Simon Stahlman, of Dora, and a half-brother, Samuel Frederick, of Sprankle Mills, also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon in the late home of the deceased beginning at 2 o`clock. Interment will be in the Markton Cemetery.
