John Teman Washburn was born November 13, 1892, in Lexington, Oklahoma (Cleveland County), the second child of Reverend Bradford Abisha Washburn (1845-1904) and Sarah Augusta Jockisch (1864-1953). John's siblings were Grace Cora Elizabeth (1890- ), Mary Ruth (1894- ), Bradford William (1897-1918), Sarah Helen Gould (1900-1987, and and Ruby Myrtle Orvilla Washburn (1904-1991).

In 1900, John and his parents and siblings were living in Benton, Missouri (Crawford County) where his father was farming. By 1904, the family had moved to Lexington, Oklahoma (Cleveland County) where the last child, Ruby, was born. By 1920, John, age 27, had married and was living with his wife, Dollie, age 23, in Lexington, with three children: Thomas Virgil., age 4; Alma Louise, age 2 years 10 months; and John Wendell, 10 months. John and his family were living next door to Dollie's parents, and their daughter, Melva.

John had married Dollie West Rose, who was born March 17, 1896, in Ardmore, Oklahoma (Carter County), daughter of John Henry Rose and Sarah Ida "Mittie" Bryant. John and Dollie had six children, all born in Lexington: Thomas Virgil born September 16, 1915; Alma Louise born February 2, 1917; John Wendell born February 17, 1919; Dwight "Dutch", born December 5, 1921; Mary Elizabeth born November 13, 1923; Kenneth Washburn born January 6, 1927; and Marland Dorr born January 17, 1935.

John died July 21, 1970 and was buried in the Lexington Cemetery. Dollie died on April 9, 1979 and was buried beside her husband.
