Mrs. Nellie Scoggin, Area Pioneer, Dead

Mrs. Nellie Edith Scoggin, 72, a resident of Garfield and Asotin Counties for the last 67 years, died at the Asotin County Memorial Hospital t 6 last night after a lingering illness. Mrs. Scoggin had been in the hospital for the last month.

She was born July 2, 1879, in Montgomery County, Kan., and moved west with her parents at the age of 5. Born as Nelie Brunton, she married Jasper M. Scoggin at Pomeroy May 11, 1899. Mr. Scoggin died in 1946.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Vera Blankinship, Asotin; Mrs. Opal Vaughn, Brookings, Ore.; Mrs. Flossie Ryker, Lewiston, and Mrs. Pearl Peters, Clarkston; A son, Wayne Scoggin, Richland, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Burgess, Tacoma, May Messinger, Gold Bech, Ore.; 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
