Maxine Polumsky, 81, of Clarkston, passed away Oct. 18, 2013, in Clarkston. She was born Sept. 15, 1932, to Blanche Flower and Roy Lee Berlinghoff in Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950.

She was a homemaker and bookkeeper beginning from 1952 to 1954 in Camp Lejeune, N.C.; from 1954 to 1961 in Day Ridge, Ore.; 4-0 Cattle Co. in Anatone from 1961 to 1963 and continued to do this up until the present. She was a clerk at Morgans Alley in the Holliday House in Lewiston from 1979 to 1981. She also served as an Asotin County Fair judge and fairboard member; and worked as a volunteer at the blood bank. She helped in organizing and bringing the Inland Northwest Blood Center to Lewiston. She also was an Elks Lodge member and was a Lady of the Elks and a past Elk of the Year.

She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter; made her own clothes, Halloween costumes for the grandchildren and quilts for the entire family. She owned her own professional cake baking business that she operated out of her home where she made wedding and birthday cakes.

Maxine was a self-accomplished cook, cooked for ranch hands in her early years, cooked for family as well as submitting canning and baking entries in the Asotin County Fair yearly.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Polumsky of Clarkston; sons and their wives, Gary and Lynn Polumsky of Spokane, Steve and Paula Polumsky of Clarkston, and Tim and Sue Polumsky of Enterprise, Ore.; brother L.E. (Bud and Helen) Berlinghoff of Clarkston; sister Ruth Dyer of Hillsboro, Ore.; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Pratt and Fay Polumsky and brother Max Berlinghoff.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Merchants Funeral Home, 1000 Seventh St., Clarkston. Burial will follow at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston. A luncheon will be held after the burial service at the Lewiston Elks Lodge. Memorial donations may be made to the Inland Northwest Blood Center in Lewiston.
