Lawrence was a native of Peola and was born June 14, 1912, to William C. and Magdalena R. Brooks Po lumsky. He attended the Peola Rural School and Holy Family Catholic School at Clarkston.

As a young man, he worked with teams of horses on farms in Asotin and Garfield counties.

During his childhood, he was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish at Peola and later was a communicant of Holy Family Catholic Church at Clarkston. He was also a member of the Lewis-Clark Moose Lodge and the Hugo Pautler Senior Center, both at Clarkston.

He married Audrey E. Kuther Oct. 25, 1938, at Clarkston.

He helped build the Holy Family School in 1937 and the school's annex in 1950. He enjoyed working with his cattle and dogs and fishing and, in his younger years, was an accomplished wheat sack sewer.

Four brothers, Walter, Frank, James and Kenneth Polumsky, and two sisters, Sophia Marie and Frances Polumsky, died previously.
