Mrs. Margaret Hunter Phelps, 85, prominent Church and community worker, died last night at 8:30 o'clock in a local hospital of ailments incident to advance age. She resided at 1526 South Sixth West Street.

Mrs. Phelps was born in Salt Lake City, September 30, 1850, the daughter of Isaac and Ann Lund Hunter, early Utah settlers. Her father came to Utah in 1850 and aided in the construction of the Salt Lake Temple.

A resident of Salt Lake City the greater part of her life, Mrs. Phelps took an outstanding part in Church functions and served as the first president of the Ninth Ward's first organization, the Y.L.M.I.A. she also was active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers organization.

When about 35 years of age, Mrs. Phelps together with her family, moved to Montpelier, Idaho where she resided for a number of years, returning to Salt Lake City 15 years ago, where she has since lived.

She was the mother of six children, four of whom survive, they are George L. Phelps of Salt Lake City; Mrs. William C. Parker of Murray; Howard H. Groo, son by a previous marriage, and J. Smith Phelps, both of Montpelier. Also surviving are a brother, Jacob Hunter and three sisters, Mrs. Martha Wolstenholme of Magna; Mrs. J. R. Clawson, Driggs, Idaho; Mrs. Frank Ball, of Pocatello; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in the Cannon Ward Chapel, 1385 South Eight West Street. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street, this evening until 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and at the chapel one-half hour prior to services. Following the services, the body will be taken to Montpelier where additional services will be held Thursday.

Burial will take place in the Montpelier City Cemetery.
