She was one of 27 students and one teacher killed when their bus crashed. Rachel was one of three children and a Sophmore at YCHS. Her father, a music teacher in the school district, taught her to play the violin. She had joined the choir just a few weeks before the accident. Her favorite song, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was played, on the violin, at her funeral, by her father. She is buried in her families plot in their home state of Kansas.
