A Rosary and memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for Gregory Raymond Gibbons, 85, who died Nov. 6, 2007 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gibbons was born Dec. 23, 1921 in Lowell, Massachusetts, to George and Mary Gibbons. Mr. Gibbons was a high school graduate and received his associates degree.

He served in the Army, attaining the rank of sergeant. He married Emma Florence Gibbons at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lowell, Massachusetts on Nov. 26, 1950. He worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a resident of San Leandro, California for 25 years before moving to Gardnerville 22 years ago. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and he was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church. He was famous in his family for his apple pies.

He loved listening to Irish music, bagpipes and marching bands. His greatest joy was spending time with his two grandsons, Matthew Gibbons Parra and Alexander Gibbons Parra. He enjoyed Saturday morning breakfast with his daughter and he had a great sense of humor.

Mr. Gibbons was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Florence Gibbons, Nov. 29, 2003; his parents; three sisters, Rose Walker, Kitty Boisvert, and Louise Anglin; two brothers, James Gibbons and George Gibbons.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann and her husband, John Alfred Parra, of Gardnerville; brother, Raymond H. Gibbons and his wife, Ruth; two grandsons, Matthew and Alexander Gibbons Parra, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
