Raymond Henry Gibbons, CW04 (ret) United States Army passed away on December 23, 2013 in El Paso, Texas at the age of 81. Born on January 13, 1932 to George and Mary (McClellan) in Lowell, MA, he was the youngest of seven children, graduated from Chelmsford High School and enlisted in the Navy Reserves. Raymond joined the United States Army in 1955. While serving in New York City he met his future wife, Ruth Trottier and married in October of 1954. They had two children, Raymond Henry Gibbons Jr. and Christine Ann Gibbons Nigida (Stephen). The family had the good fortune to travel to many assignments in the United States, Germany and Korea, where Ray worked in radar and air defense school. Upon retirement he pursued a Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Masters of Science in Nursing and a Masters of Education from UTEP. As a registered nurse he worked in several hospitals in El Paso and taught nursing at El Paso Community College. Raymond is survived by his wife, children, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Nancy Trottier, brother-in-law, Bruce (Sue) Trottier and numerous nieces and nephews. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Ray was a quiet man who adored his family, had a passion for military history and was devoted to his country. In lieu of flowers please make contributions in his name to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church St. Vincent De Paul 9025 Diana Drive or El Paso Texas Flags Across America (EPTFAA) PO Box 640112, El Paso, Texas 79904. The family is especially appreciative of the care by the entire staff of the Ambrosio Guillen Veterans Home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors at a later date.
