Mary's parents were Joel and Rosamond Purmort Peck of Jay, New York. Rosamond was a direct descendant of William Brewster of the Mayflower. Baron Earl Boynton and Mary married March 5, 1861 at Burlington, Iowa. Mary lived at that time in Henderson County, Illinois with her widowed mother, Rosamond, and brothers James H. Peck, Judson, Phineas, and John W. Peck. Joel Peck, a Baptist minister,had died near Plainfield, Ohio in 1839 at which time the family returned to Jay, NY to live with Rosamond's family the Purmorts. After receiving a land bounty for 160 acres the family moved to Henderson County, Illinois. Rosamond lived with Mary at the time of her death and is buried near her.
