A memorial service for Marie E. Christoffersen will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Temple. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to9 p.m. Sunday at Allen Mortuary. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Christoffersen, 94, a Turlock resident for 70 years, died Thursday at Emanuel Medical Center. She was born May 29, 1905, in Oslo, Norway. She was an accountant and helped her husband, Enoch, in their business, Christoffersen Poultry Egg and Feed Market, which later became Valchris turkey. She also assisted her husband in his service as a city leader; he was mayor for 22 years. Mrs. Christoffersen showed up at every official city function, went to almost all the council meetings, and hosted visits from state and national politicians, her children said. Mrs. Christoffersen was an active member of Bethel Temple and headed the church's junior department. She was a member of Gideons Auxiliary. She traveled the world doing Christian work with her husband. Mrs. Christoffersen was grand marshal, in memory of her late husband, of the first Scandinavian festival, Skandi Fest, in 1991. She is survived by her children, Ailene Cross of Turlock, Lorene Larson of Jamestown and Marlene Reed of Desert Hot Spring; sisters, Gunda Gimle of Turlock, Hazel Heighes of Gilroy and Ragnhild Pedersen of Santa Rosa; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
