After 35 years of taking an active part in the life of Wood River valley, Mrs. John J. Beck passed away at noon Decoration Day at her home in Hailey. She moved to this area with her husband in 1914 and in 1942 the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Bellevue.
Annie Brown was born August 28, 1875 in Utah and as a young girl of 17 years, was married to John J. Beck in Eureka, Utah on March 29, 1892. After living for over 20 years in Utah, the family moved to the Wood River valley in 1914 where Mr. Beck engaged in farming.
For the past ten years Mrs. Beck has been an invalid, but her death was a shock to many friends who had known her for nearly two-score years. She passed away in her 73rd year of life.
She is survived by her husband and six children, who are: Dean Beck of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Douglas Miller and Marshall Beck of Hailey; Harvail Beck of Ogden; Howard Beck of Lewiston and Mrs. Marcella Sansler of Arcola, Illinois. In addition, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive.
Mrs. Beck is also mourned by four sisters. Mrs. Marie Kibbie of Hailey; Mrs. Thelma Laidlaw of Carey; Mrs. Carrie DeVaux of Newport, Oregon; and Mrs. Letha Graham, Boise. She also leaves four brothers. Pat Brown of Spokane, Will Brown of San Diego, Calif.; Joe Brown of Mitchell, Oregon and Tim Brown of Hailey.
Funeral mass will be held Friday at 10:30a.m. from the Hailey Cathlic (sic) church with Rev. Father L.M. Dougherty officiating. Arrangements are in charge of the McGoldrick funeral home, where Rosary was recited at 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Hailey cemetery.
