About 1858 Harris Benson Nash, with his family, joined some thirteen other families and trekked westward by oxen wagon. They were 13 weeks enroute from Bowden, Georgia, to Jackson Parish, Louisiana, where the Nash family stopped a year, near some old Georgia friends, the Upchurch family. Here they also found an Uncle of Martha's, Robert Malone Stell, a physican and writer. The next year, a brother, Crum (Abercrombie) Nash, came out from Georgia, and the two Nash brothers and a cousin, Joe Babb, settled on Spring Creek in Rapides Parish. Joe Babb settled at Babb's bridge and Crum one mile north and Harris Benson Nash two miles north. Source: Obituary of daughter of Harris Benson Nash and Martha Cook Fletcher, Sarah A. Nash, who married John Newton Mc Donald. Sarah died 9 May 1941.
