Nannie married first in Laurens County, South Carolina, about 1826, to Elihu Parker GRADEN, Sr. (b. 1805 Laurens Co., SC - d. 1843 McDonough, Henry Co., GA). In the summer of 1835, this family moved to Henry County, Georgia, following the lead of Nannie's maternal (Abercrombie) family members.
Elihu sadly died in a farming accident in 1843 and left Nannie with six children and pregnant with their seventh child (Hannah-15, Mary-13, Elizabeth-7, EP, Jr-6, Caroline-4, Sarah-2 and Lucindy was born shortly after). Elihu was buried in the Babb Community Cemetery of Bear Creek (Hampton), near Nannie's mother Hannah Nash, Nannie's uncle Colville Abercrombie and other family members. Elihu's grave, marked only by a field stone, is located about seven yards to the right, of the John Nesbitt Nash's grave marker.
