J. Lawrence Dufphey, a native Virginian but a resident of Madison County for fifty-four years, died late Sunday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.R. Hackler, where he had received attention for the past two months. Mr Dufphey had been an invalid for about two years and heart trouble hastened the end.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon with Rev, David Scott of Meadow grove in charge and burial was made in the family lot at Mt. Zion cemetery southwest of Battle Creek.
Mr Dufphey was born in Grayson County , Virginia, March 16,1860 and had reached the age of 76 years, 2 months and 1day.In 1882 he came to Madison County, Nebraska and engaged in farming near Battle Creek. In 1888 he was married to MissVertie Phipps. Retiring from the farm after many years he moved to Tilden, where he was engaged in business. A few years ago he became a resident of Battle Creek and operated a produce store until he could no longer conduct the business on account of failing health. Mrs. Dufphey died in 1933, since which time he had lived with his son, Leonard Dufphey in Battle Creek.
Surviving are the son, one brother, Tom Dufphey of Tilden, and a sister, Mrs Nannie Wright of Battle Creek. There are two grandchildren, Danny and Lorrayne Dufphey
