REXBURG - John McRae Jr., 69, of Idaho Falls, a farm worker in the Upper Snake River Valley, died Aug. 27, 1995, at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls following a short illness.
He was born June 7, 1926, in Rexburg, to John Sr. and Arliean Sophia Higley McRae. He attended school in Independence, near Rexburg, and also Rigby High School. During World War II, he served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He married Leola Veda Weekes and they later divorced. He married Rose Santiago in Idaho Falls. He worked on several farms in Ashton, Rexburg and west of Idaho Falls.
He was a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting, reading, cooking and visiting friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Rose McRae of Chicago; children, John Aaron McRae, Wanda Finigan, Mrs. Don (Barbara) Atwood, Mrs. Marvin (June) Huffman, and Sharon McRae, all of Idaho Falls, and Mrs. Alvin (Patsy) Winegar of Rexburg; a brother and three sisters, Denis McRae of Meridian, Lola Mancilla of Salem, Ore., Hilda Widdison of Moses Lake, Wash., and Lynette Brewington of Middleton; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, his parents and five brothers.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Burton LDS Church with Bishop Joe Spaulding officiating. The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, and Thursday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Burton Cemetery with military rites by Hans Jensen Post 2012, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
