Michael McKenzie Mattox (Maddox, Mattocks) was born circa 1750 in South Carolina to John Mattocks and Ann Mackenzie. There are variations for the spellings of Mattox and McKenzie in documents that have been located over the years. Michael McKenzie Mattox was generally known as McKenzie / Mackenzie, rather than "Michael".

Michael McKenzie Mattox married Elizabeth Hartridge Joyce Williams, widow of Zachariah Williams. They were married in SC, c. 1775. (See memorial for Elizabeth for additional information.)

Michael McKenzie Mattox served in the American Revolution as a soldier in the Militia from South Carolina. SALLEY & WATES, STUB ENTRIES OF INDENTS BOOKS U-W, P 125, LIBER V, #204 lists his service.
