She was born on November 26, 1926 in Wenatchee to William and Rose Ellen (Martin) Hawkes. She was raised and schooled in the Wenatchee area. She met and was later married to Rueben Taylor Johnson on September 27, 1952 in Wenatchee. They moved to make their home in East Wenatchee in 1961. She was preceded in death by her husband on September 19, 1996. She has since continued to make her home in East Wenatchee.
Margaret worked as a Supervisor for G.T.E. and following her marriage, she worked a variety of intermittent jobs which included sorting apples and working for the Douglas County Election Board Service. Her special passion was gardening. She was a longtime member of Wenatchee First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Connie Johnson, Yakima; two brothers, Bob Hawkes, Wenatchee; and Bill Hawkes, Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Betty Roehl and Barbara Chambers both of Wenatchee and one granddaughter, Maggie Johnson, Yakima. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996, her parents and one sister, Pat Cassario.
Commemoration services will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, with the Rev. Kel Groseclose officiating. Friends who wish, may make memorial contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
