Born June 12, 1927, in Patterson Township, he was the son of the late William and Edith Payton Burgess. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Beaver Falls and was a Deacon Emeritus of the church. He was a Mason and a member of the Union Lodge in New Brighton. He was the former owner of Burgess Refuse Service, former manager of Kroger's Grocery Store in both Rochester and Aliquippa, and was a former warehouse manager of Berry-Berry Transmission in Ambridge. Don had been a member of the Optimist Club, a former zoning officer in Patterson Township, a former member of the Patterson Township School Board, and a former member of the Blackhawk Area School Board Authority.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, June E. Blowers Burgess; two sons and daughters-in-law, Blaine D. and Debbie Burgess, Patterson Township, and Dr. Brian E. and Terri Burgess, Hockessin, DE; five grandchildren, Barnaby, Sarah, Jeff, Greg and Mark Burgess; a brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Margaret Burgess, and a nephew, Bruce Burgess.
There will be no public visitation.
A private memorial service will be held for his family with the Rev. Scott Henwood and the Rev. Donald Gaffney officiating.
Private interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Big Beaver.
