Emily Meyers was born in Springfield, Ill., March 9, 1831. She lived there until 3 years of age, when she moved with her parents to Marshall county, Ill., living there until her marriage to Jacob Burnham in 1848. From there they moved to Mechanicsville, Cedar county, Iowa, in 1852, living there until 1876. They then moved to Green county, Iowa, where they resided until 1891, whence they moved to Story county, where she resided until she was called home at Collins Thursday Dec. 7, 1911, her age being 80 years, 8 months and 28 days.
To this union were born nine children: Mrs. Alice Patterson; Hiram, who died when 5 yrs of age; Hattie, dying at the age of 2 1/2 yrs; Mrs. Rose Pettit, who died in 1876; Mrs. Ford of Clifton, Ariz; Mrs. Maude Harrison of Collins, Iowa; Frank Burnham of Perry and Mrs. Myrtle Shackelford of Collins.
She and her husband united with the church of Christ in 1898. She was baptized into Christ by Bro. Hastie. Deceased was preceded to the better land by her husband June 24, 1907, having been married nearly 60 years.
Since the death of her husband she has made her home with her daughter Mrs. Harrison.
Deceased is survived by relatives and children and a community of friends to mourn their loss.
Deceased has a brother in Pomona, Calif.
The interment was at the Collins Cemetery. The pall bearers were W. H. Thompson, Frank Holland, A. S. McCord, C. R. Wick, A. W. Woten and Ole Morell.
