William S. St. Clair (Sinclair) was the son of Ransom Sinclair and Nancy Edrington; grandson of George Washington Sinclair and Lucinda Cosby and of Silas Edrington and Elizabeth Fisher.

It has been presumed that William's middle name was Silas, but this has not been proven.

He was brother to Mack (McClelland) St. Clair, Mary Elvira [Davis], Isaphene (Josephine) [Baysinger], Susan P. [Brewster, South], Mary Elizabeth and James A. Sinclair.

William Sinclair married Phoebe E. Stiles Baysinger in Perry County in August 1891 and they were divorced in August 1892. No children were born to this marriage.

He then had a relationship with Sarah Ingle of Dubois County and they were the parents of a boy born on 30 Mar 1894 in Mentor, Dubois County, Indiana. In April 1894 Sarah filed a bastardy suit against Wm. Sinclair in Crawford County, Indiana. The name of this child is unknown and the whereabouts of this child is a mystery. Theories are that the child either died within five years of his birth or was raised by Sarah's family with the last name of Ingle, but this has not been proven. The child was still alive in 1898 because of the pending bastardy lawsuit in Crawford County Indiana filed by Sarah against William.

On September 16, 1893 William married Martha E. Sigler of Crawford County.

William and Martha were the parents of five boys; Willard McClelland, Oscar, Elmer Orville, Torrence and Iville R. St. Clair.

William was reported dead in Indiana in July of 1908 but he was in LaGrange, Cook County, Illinois in the 1920s and I have written documentation that proves this fact including the address at which he lived. However, a death certificate for a William Sincler has been located with a July 26 1908 death date; cause of death: typhoid fever. Ransom Sinclair of Winslow signed the death certificate. This has become more confusing and we now suspect that the William Sinclair in LaGrange Illinois was in fact his son Willard.

At the time of William's death, he was employed as a miner. He was diagnosed with "rheumatism" and had it for approximately two weeks before he died.

This is my great-grandfather.
