OBIT - GEORGE A VANNESS.

RONAN - George A VanNess, 84, passed away of natural causes Tuesday, May 7, 1996, at St. Lukes Extended Care Facility.

He was born Nov. 18, 1911, to Charles Albert and Anna H. VanNess in Ogema, Saskatchewan. He moved to Montana with his parents in 1920 and settled in Flaxville. They then moved to Charlo in 1927 and later to the Round Butte area in 1929.

On July 3, 1936, he married Evalina C. Goings of Goodland, Kansas, in Polson. In 1940, George moved to his present location where he remained until the time of his death. Besides ranching, George had so many hobbies and interests it would take a book to list them all. But his greatest gift was telling stories and talking to his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evalina in 1984: his parents; a son, Charles, in 1977; two grandsons, Brian VanNess and Scott McClure; two brothers, Ray and Harry VanNess; and three sisters, Helen, Gladys and Pearl.

Survivors include seven sons and their spouses, George and Margaret VanNess, Big Sandy,; Jerry and Charlotte VanNess, George, Wash.; Roy and Faye VanNess, Arlee; Robin and Judy VanNess, Pablo; Paul "Pete" VanNess, at the family home in Ronan; Rod and Peggy VanNess, Polson; and Joe VanNess, Reno, Nev.; three daughters, Phyllis Sharbono and her husband Marvin, Ronan; Marrion Clairmont, Ronan; and Gail Hendrixson, Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Mildred Hendersen, Eagle Point, Ore.,; 33 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ronan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gay officiating. Interment will follw at Ronan Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Montana Blind Association.
Arrangements are by Shrider's Mortuary in Ronan.
