ABDOMINAL TROUBLE TAKES LIFE OF VERN ALLRED Orson Vern Allred, 40, died at 9:12 Saturday morning of last week at a Salt Lake hospital after being ill for 5 weeks from abdominal hemorrhages. It was an old trouble which started years ago and for which he had undergone an operation. There were recurring attacks, however, and this final one started on November 12. He entered the hospital on November 28 and underwent an operation December 12. The operation showed, relatives report, that the case was hopeless. During his illness Mr. Allred was given several blood transfusions and his life probably could have been prolonged for sometime through a continuance of this but there apparently was no chance of recovery from frequent painful hemorrhages. Mr. Allred was born in Ephraim, January 14, 1898, a son of Orson P.and Hannah Dorius Allred, and had lived here all his life. He married Stella Frandsen of Mt.Pleasant,January 29,1919, and four sons were born to them. He is survived by his widow and three sons, Grant,Roger and DeVon Allred, all of Ephraim;also his parents of Ephraim, two brothers and a sister, Marion Allred of Sacramento, Caalifornia, Robert Allred and Mrs. Clara Larson, Ephraim Mr. Allred had engaged in stock raising and farming and had done considerable timbering and other work in the mountains. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the West ward chapel with Bishop's Counselor Leslie Madsen presiding. The choir was directed by Mrs. H. A. Dean with Elda Mortenson as organist. Prayers were by W> L> Breinholt and M> Peter Christensen. Special musical numbers included a vocal duet, "There is Light Beyond the Shadow, by MRs Poulson and Mrs. Ruby P. Nielson accompanied by Bly M. Beal; a vocal solo, "In the Garden," by Mrs. H. A. Dean accompanied by Faun Thomson and with Mr. Dean playing a violin obligatto; and a violin solo, "The Lost Chord," by Roger Rasmuson accompanied by Mrs. Phyllis R. Armstrong. Speakers were F.H.Rasmuson, Mayor P.D. Jensen and Bishop O.L. Hansen. They told how Mr. Allred and his father had always been such pals and had worked together on the farm and in the mountains. They also spoke highly of the honesty, ambition and splendid character of Mr. Allred and cited scripture and poetry of a comforting and assuring nature. The funeral was very well attended and there were many floral tributes. Interment was in the Park cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Seymour E. Christensen. BROTHER UNABLE TO ATTEND- Marion Allred was unable to come for the funeral. AAbout 15 minutes after he had received word of his brother's death, he too suffered an abdominal hemorrhage, relatives were informed. When no answer came to the telegram sent about Vern's death, a telephone call was put in for Marion. He was unable to answer and his wife fold of his illness. Details as to his condition had not been received by relatives Wednesday. The funeral was delayed almost half an hour in starting. Just as the family and mourners were ready to leave the home for the chapel, Roger Allred, the second son of the deceased, suffered a nasal hemorrhage which could not be checked. Finally a physician was called to take care of the boy and the others went on to the chapel. The hemorrhaging was stopped soon and Roger went to the chapel for the latter part of the funeral service. He had fully recovered the following day.
